Let's Do Nothing!

How many times have you found yourself saying "I wish I didn't have to do anything today! I wish I could do nothing!" I say it all the time, probably too much. Let's get real, after rushing to the next thing on the "To Do List" each day, life can become an upward battle to just get through. When I found this little book it put my perspective in order. While these two little boys have more innocent outlooks on their reason for wanting to do nothing, the moral of the story is true for us all.

Let's Do Nothing! was written and illustrated by Tony Fucile. While Fucile's face might not be recognizable to most, his work will. Fucile has animated several Disney movies such as The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Let's Do Nothing was Fucile's first picture book.  Fucile said of making this book, "I vividly remember those childhood moments of excruciating boredom. We tend to remember the interesting and exciting parts of youth, but what about those times when you feel like you are stuck in a vat of molasses? A kid experiences that with such conviction. It was horrible! That said, I think those moments can be hugely catalytic. Great ideas come out of a bored mind. Or quiet mind. The concept of nothing wasn’t the impetus for the book; it was a product of the characters and situation. I visualized these two bored boys —one kind of like me, and the other kind of like my childhood friend Steve. Then I had them interact. The idea of doing nothing really sprang from these characters yapping at each other." He currently lives with wife and two children in San Francisco.
If you like this book you should buy it! A book is gift you can open again and again.
